Xiaolin Showdown part 3

So here is the final composition of all four characters: Omi, Kimiko, Raimundo, and Clay. The first group shot i wanted to mimic their formations from the show (Dragon X Kumei formation; Wudai Orion Formation) but as I didn't think of it ahead of time their poses didn't offer the most balanced and fluid of compositions, so after swapping Kimiko's and Clay's positions, as well as some minor tweaks, I finally got the image to come out looking fairly alright in my opinion. the next step is to paint these bad asses, but as drawing and painting are different I'll be taking my dear sweet time with it. Until then, please enjoy this and the individual shots. Vaya con Dios.

Xiaoliln Showdown part 2

So here is Raimundo and Clay from Xiaolin Showdown. Firstly, I loved when Raimundo wore his hoodie up when he was serving under Wuya, and so i decided to incorporate that into his outfit...I think it fits well. I also wanted him to clearly represent wind in his posture so I did him in a floating-like pose. The sword in hand is just a place holder for now. As for Clay, I knew from the beginning that I wanted to keep him simple, and so I gave him a sleeveless shirt and straight-cut-looking pants (to reminisce his cowboy heritage). I also wanted to make him barefoot so he could be better in tune with his Earth element (much like Toph from Avatar: The Last Airbender). The metal rings around his arms are a monk weapon / training device, and I thought it would not only look cool on the big buff dude that he now is, but it would also help to break the notion that earth narrows down to only rocks and dirt. The cowboy hat took me forever to finally get right, but I got it. So yea, here are the last two Xiaolin Warriors-I hope you enjoy them as much as I did. Please drop a comment below telling me what you think. Until the composition, Vaya con Dios.

Xiaolin Showdown part 1

Here are a couple sketches I did of Omi and Kimiko from the show Xiaolin Showdown. I finished watching the entire series and wanted to do some fan-art but in a different style. I decided to go more realistic as it's been a while since I've been able to do so, also adding some years and experience to the characters. They took me some time to get "perfect", but it was well worth the time and effort, not to mention I'm still earning to be proficient in digital medium. I wanted to keep them looking traditional monk-ish with some individual differentiations between the characters (besides them being different genders). I wanted Omi to be portrayed as still being powerful and experienced, where-as Kimiko is more "fluid" and still keeping some of her old style with her (the tight skirt and free-flowing hair hint at that). Raimundo and Clay will be posted together soon, and then the collaboration can be put together, followed by a color in. Everything is and will be done digitally in Photoshop. I would greatly appreciate hearing your thoughts and critiques, so please post them below. Vaya con Dios.

Quick Photo-Manip.

Here's a quick littler photo-manipulation I did for someone. Nothing fancy or too big-just simple filters and effects. I enhanced the reds so it'd give off that fiery sense along with an oil painting effect because I thought it looked cool. She was happy with it, and so I was too. Tell me your thoughts on this below. For now, Vaya con Dios.

Batman Beyond part 2

So here is the next piece; I want so badly to call this finished, but I know it's not, especially since I'm lacking the belt.  Once I get a bit of a head start on this game project I'm working on I'll come back to this and tweak it - add the belt, rework the chest symbol, tweak the helmet, add a batarang, and possibly add a background. For now I can only hope the lighting is sufficient since that was the main thing I wanted to accomplish. I hope you all enjoy the current state-my Photoshop skills are improving every day, so stay tuned to see more awesomeness. Vaya con Dios.

Batman Beyond part 1

So I FINALLY got my account to allow me to upload images - I have no idea what happened to it. Anyway, no need to dwell on it-I'm back in action and ready to start posting again. my first is a Batman piece I decided to do digitally since I know my skills need improving. I rendered a pose using DAZ 3D, then saved a jpeg and referenced off of it. I wanted the lighting to be a bit direct in order to show the muscle tone of of the figure (as this is a skintight mesh suit). I also wanted some harsh highlights as the Beyond universe is pretty lit up. The only thing that is pretty distinct from the original design is the biker-esque helmet and visor and the detached wings. A part 2 is coming soon-it will show a darker suit and "radiating" features. For now, please enjoy this sketch-by-painting image, and please comment below. Vaya con Dios.

Posting Issues...

Hey guys, sorry I haven't posted in a while - for some reason every attempt I make at posting some new images I get an error report, if I'm lucky...half the time it just doesn't even go anywhere at all. I am not sure what the issue is, but rest assured I am in the process of fixing it. Also, I have quite a few more images to post; some are a bit older, while some are more recent. Unfortunately there are some things that I won't be able to post as I am under nondisclosure agreements for those specific projects, but rest assured once they are completed they will go live. Thanks for all the support, and Vaya con Dios.

Raine

A quick dog / wolf familiar I drew for a friend - we were talking about our pets and she mentioned one of hers with a similar color palette, and given it had passed away I decided to do this for her. It's a typical design-nothing special; just a pattern of colors representing her late pet. I chose the name Raine in reference to the X-Men character who can turn herself into or partially into a werewolf or full wolf. So yea, something quick and easy I did just to pass a moment and make a friend happy. I'm waiting to finish or be close to finishing most of these other projects I am heavily involved in to start a photoshop version of this. This piece was drawn on 9X12 sketch paper in standard graphite and colored using Design colored pencils. Please comment below any thoughts or requests you may have. Vaya con Dios.

Sweet Lolita Concept part 1

Here is a quick digital sketch of a Lolita character I'm currently working on. I know there is much that has yet to be done, but as of this very moment, I'm pleased with where it stands; the ideas that are swimming in my head are so numerous that it's like a school of fish-so many, in fact, that I'll unfortunately be unable to incorporate them all. The basic look I'm aiming for with her is a Sweet Lolita with a touch or two of some Gothic elements (to pay tribute to the model I'm referencing). At this point I want to make her in anime-style with a few features - a large pen or pencil on her back, a phone or handheld game device on her hip or upper arm, and a few others - but depending on where this ultimately travels I may or may not omit them and save them for another project. Done entirely in Photoshop I am overly open to your input, so please leave a comment below. Vaya con Dios.

Legend of Legaia part 2 and 3

A digital sketch and a first-draft color render of my Legend of Legaia commission. I'm not the most experienced user of digital medium, but overall I'm pleased with the direction it's going. This is still an unfinished piece, however, so there is still quite a bit to do. Stay tuned for further updates (sorry I haven't posted in over a month - so much is happening [writing multiple articles per week for a magazine; starting up a business consulting firm with another individual; trying to organize everything for my upcoming college graduation - it's quite a bit, plus more]). Anyway, please leave a comment below to let me know what you think, and if you have any suggestions (I hope you do) on how to boost the quality of this work, I implore you to leave a comment as well. Vaya con Dios.

Legend of Legaia part 1

This is a commission piece I'm currently working on for a friend. He wanted me to draw the three main protagonists from the Playstation One game "Legend of Legaia". I already know that the female character's face is jacked up, but the photoshop render will be much better (I hope). The designs and costumes are pretty much based on how they are in the game - the only things that really "changed" were their weapons, and I might change them a bit again once I get into photoshop. They may also be rearranged, but that is yet to be determined. They were all done on the same sheet of 9X12 sketch paper in graphite. Everything else is pretty self-explanatory, and with that I'll say Vaya con Dios.

Native American Concept Sketches

First off, I would like to apologize for my absence in the past month - some things have been happening that I am quite proud to say have happened. And now on to the work - these sketches were done for a character I had developed very quickly. He is a Native American (not sure if a warrior or a shaman or whatever) who is traveling in search of his place among his people as well as within the world. Along his travels he encounters many grueling obstacles, many of which are based in Native American folklore. These designs were created in order to help the team I have recently joined decide on what project we should work on (unfortunately my idea was not chosen, but I have not abandoned the idea). There really wasn't any general direction I was going with this, since it was such an early idea - I pretty much based him on real-world cultural fashion from different tribes. With that being said, I know that I would like to further develop this character, if for nothing else to put as a professional portfolio piece. Each was done on 9X12 sketch paper in standard graphite. I hope you all like him as much as I did creating him. Vaya con Dios.
